Tom Hanks’ son Chet Hanks condemned the intolerant people who “twisted” the meaning of his phrase “white boy summer” to promote hatred.
“White boy summer was created to be fun, playful and a celebration of badass white boys who love beautiful queens of all races,” he posted on Instagram on Wednesday.
“Anything further twisted into supporting any form of hatred or intolerance against any group of people is reprehensible and I condemn it.”
Chet concluded, “I hope we can all spread love to each other and treat each other with kindness and dignity.”
The 33-year-old spoke out after the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism reported that the “white boy summer” has been “hijacked by far-right extremists to promote hatred and intolerance”..“
“The far-right movement is adept at bringing its hateful ideologies into the mainstream, particularly through the use of social media, and the already viral White Boy Summer has provided the perfect platform for them to spread their bigotry to a wider audience,” the report said.
In May, Chet declared on Instagram that the summer of 2024 would be a “white boy summer,” writing, “I consulted with the heavens, felt a west wind, walked outside a strip club and saw my shadow… this is gonna be a #WBS #iHaveSpoken ⛪️.”
Chet released his song “White Boy Summer” in 2021 after being inspired by Megan Thee Stallion’s song “Hot Girl Summer.”
“I met a bad little girl at a party / She busted her booty like it was her only chance / Rich b–h, known for runnin’ them bands / She said ‘f–k it,’ then she went and made an OnlyFans, uh Hot boy, white boy summer,” he sings in the song.
In the music video, Chet bounced his face off a woman’s butt and wore a shirt that said “stop hate.”
The A-list star’s son previously defended the song after it received a lot of criticism on social media.
“I just feel like man, this summer, it’s gonna be a white boy summer. Take it how you want,” he wrote on social media in March 2021.
“I’m not talking about Trump, NASCAR-type white guy,” he added. “I’m talking about, you know, me, [R&B artist] Jon B, [rapper] Jack Harlow type white boy summer. Let me know if you guys can relate and get ready because I am it.”
