Spain: Ilkay Gundogan believes Germany can look forward to their quarter-final against Spain with a smile as the mood in the country has already changed and their Euro 2024 goals have been achieved, writes Sid Lowe.
Early team news
With his squad free of suspensions and injuries, Spain coach Luis de la Fuente is expected to field a team unchanged from the one that came back from behind to beat Georgia last time out. However, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Dani Olmo replace Pedri with Mikel Merino in midfield.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann is in a dilemma now that Jonathan Tah is back from suspension. He will have to decide whether to bench his first-choice centre-back at the expense of Nico Schlotterbeck, who performed superbly in the Bayer Leverkusen player’s absence. Florian Wirtz was also on the bench for the win over Denmark and could return tonight at the expense of Leroy Sane.
