A lot of Old Ring players have been struggling with the recently released game Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. The DLC, set in an entirely new region, includes a tough boss glove and a brand new leveling system that has raised the bar for people, maybe even a little too high. However, many are starting to finish the expansion and return to the base game, and many of them are making a pit stop to show off a certain boss.
Spoilers for the endgame of Elden Ring follow.
As you approach the end of Old Ring‘s base game, one of the final mandatory fights is against Sir Gideon Ofnir The All-Knowing, an NPC who is intertwined with the player character for the vast majority of the game. In your attempt to rise up and become the Elden Lord, you’ll naturally clash with Gideon, who generally provides advice at the Roundtable Hold—a gathering place for other Tarnished—even if he’s secretly a rat bitch who wants to stop anyone from taking the throne. In short, he gets this beating. He doesn’t, however, put up a particularly good fight.
Even on a first playthrough, Gideon is kind of a wimp. His fight is immediately followed by a much more epic and demanding fight against Godfrey/Horah Loux, making Gideon a bit of a aperitif to sharpen the palette for the series Real demanding boss battles that top it all off Old Ring. Gideon is a skinny, gaunt figure, whose appearance only betrays the fact that he’s a nerd who knows a bunch of spells to use against you. However, he’s largely flawed in constitution and, anecdotally, he’s kind of a joke. I think that’s why Old Ring players enjoy showing him what they can do with their new skills and weapons after they’re done Shadow of the Erdtree‘s much more difficult content.
There are a few clips doing the rounds online, including a particularly brutal clip in which a player is absolutely spears Gideon with the Great Sword of Doom. They follow more or less the same formula: a player saunters over to Gideon, who begins his story before being wiped out almost immediately. Some clips are a bit longer than others, but generally speaking, veterans returning from the Land of Shadow with new weapons and abilities wipe the floor with him, and it’s extreme funny.
People are having a lot of fun dunking Gideon with a variety of new weapons. Some are using the elemental perfumes to completely melt the guy in one hit, while a random TikTok I came across showed a guy using the new hand-to-hand combat to defeat him. Perhaps the funniest of the clips is where a large hammer is swung around and eventually blasted at the guy’s head, causing him to disintegrate.
It’s great to see players at the top after a few weeks of hearing everything how hard the DLC is. It seems like they’re taking that pent up frustration out on Gideon now, and apparently there’s a precedent for it. Players are apparently waiting to kill Gideon with new DLC weapons and skills since they were demonstrated in Shadow of the Erdtree‘S first trailerbut even before that it was common to kill the man in the most humiliating way possible. At first players developed overpowered builds, but eventually modders started decimating Gideon with everything from a pistol to Jiu-jitsu KaisenGojo Satoru is it.
In short: eat shit, Gideon.
